Choose To Be gr8ful

One of my pet peeves is shortening words. You know those annoying people who use numbers inside of words instead of just sticking to letters?

Today I am those people.

This time I think it is justified, if you disagree be sure and let me know.

gr8ful:

It is something that I have started doing with my family, and I think you might like it too.

We choose to do it every Thursday when I get home from work. I would do it first thing in the morning but I think my wife would maybe slap me if I woke her up at 5:30 a.m. to ask what she was thankful for, and that is fair.

Here’s what gr8ful is:

  • the first eight minutes when I get home from work
  • after “hi” and “I love you” the only thing you’re allowed to say is something you’re grateful for
  • no cheating, even if you have to sit in awkward silence
  • if you stick out your tongue at your wife she is allowed to slap you

That’s all there is too it. It is simple really.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 tells us to give thanks in all circumstances. I think it is helpful if we can set aside time to do this. I know it can be easy to stay focused on what is going wrong in our day and bring that home, but if we take the time to switch our focus it will change our whole day.

Do you have a specific time that you share what you are thankful for?

Should I add more than my four rules?

  1. I think it’s a great idea..maybe I can get the whole fambly to do it! I would add one more rule, though. If a husband says he’s thankful that his wife just has ” more to hug”, she can also slap. I doubt if Nicole would ever slap you…but she mite bite!
